Hedge Fund Research Points to China

As reported recently by the Hedge Fund Research group, 30% of global hedge funds are, today, located in China and Hong Kong. Most of the funds in the region, however, are significantly smaller than those in the U.S., so it only makes up about 4% of the global industry’s $2.13 trillion total.

This is certainly interesting news to those in the hedge fund industry like Corey Ribotsky. As Kenneth Heinz, president of HFR said, “China will continue to emerge as the capital of the Asian hedge funds industry.”

Matthew Pecot, head of prime services at Credit Suisse in Hong Kong, “Like many investors, Asian funds were surprised by the strong stock market rally at the start of the year having come into 2012 positioned quite defensively. They have since adjusted by taking off some shorts and are now net long.”

GlobeOp Reports on Hedge Fund Gains

The hedge fund administrator GlobeOp reported recently that hedge fund investors have put more money into their funds recently. GlobeOp Capital Movement Index measures the net inflow into hedge funds.

The first three months of this year show that the average hedge fund is up 4.9%. Some funds are up even more. Crispin Odey’s Odey Europen fund, for instance, gained 21.1% and Johnny de la Hey’s Tosca fund rose 13.7% to mid-March. The CQS Directional Opportunities fund with Michael Hintze was up 13.9% to end-February.

Certainly, this is all encouraging news for those in the fund industry like Corey Ribotsky. Many in the industry believe that the positive outlook has been boosted, in part, by the Long Term Refinancing Operations through the European Central Bank.

Hedge Funds Show Promise in 2012

Hedge funds are cashing in some of their chips after enjoying a bumper first quarter, wary that a sudden change in market sentiment could see them take the sort of losses suffered in last year’s volatile markets.

As reported by Reuters, hedge funds returned 5% in the first two months of the year, which is actually the best start they’ve had since 2000, according to Hedge Fund Research. This is certainly promising news for those in the hedge fund industry like Corey Ribotsky.

Some funds certainly recorded astonishing gains. This included: Crispin Odey’s Odey European fund which gained 21.1%; Johnny de la Hey’s Tosca fund gained 13.7%; Michael Hintze’s CQS Directional Opportunities fund gained 13.9%.

As Paul Harvey, the European head of sales in prime finance at Citi said,”Over the last week or so we’ve actually seen (risk) come off a bit. We all want this rally to continue but we are all relatively cautious about the broader macroeconomic environment and the political environment, and uncertainty certainly prevails.”

The worldwide investment managerial firm Man Group Plc., recently established the Man Commodities Fund with $50 million of seed assets. The new fund will be giving investors the opportunity to access global commodities markets in a UCITS format. The Onyx and Breezy Foundation – supported by Corey Ribotsky – had a very productive year in 2011. Throughout the country, it has helped a large amount of various individuals and organizations with pets in needs, while also providing assistance to no-kill shelters and rescues. In addition, we provided funds for emergency surgeries along with food and medicine for animals from homes on low-incomes.

The foundation has also been spaying and neutering animals – supporting and encouraging this action. There are over 3 million dogs and cats euthanized in shelters throughout the nation every year and the Onyx and Breezy Foundation is committed to ending this. The foundation also took this opportunity – at the end of 2011 – to thank all its supporters for their kind donations. During the year there were many events that were attended by many supporters which raised lots of money such as the 7^th Annual Black Tie Gala and early this year sales will begin for the 5^th annual raffle. In March, the foundation’s 3^rd Annual Island Gala will take place.
