These rising prices have actually forced U.S. roasters J.M. Smucker Co and Kraft Foods Inc. to raise prices by 9% and 10%. Starbucks Corp has reported, for now, that they will absorb the four cents a share increase.

As the article explains, “Coffee stocks in ICE-approved warehouses have shrunk 35% since the beginning of the year, and global exports were down 14% in June to 7.8 million of 132-pound bags. A year earlier, exports totaled 18.5 million, according to the London-based International Coffee Organization.”

One of their most creative fundraising efforts is called Chocolate for a Cure. They sell delicious chocolate bars as a way to make a “sweet” difference in someone’s life who is fighting cancer. You’ll receive 24 candy bars in each box and you’ll then be able to sell them to raise money to create more cancer research.

It’s hard to find a more inspirational story than this one. On Sunday, October 17th, the Nike Women’s Half Marathon will take place in San Francisco, California to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The money that is raised for this half marathon will help to stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma.

Team Nancy, with sisters Debbie, Barbie, Kathy, Pam, Tam and Tracy, is training for this half marathon in memory of their sister, Nancy Driscoll. Now, the six are training in their home towns and planning to meet up in San Francisco for the big race.

“Losing a sister or anyone to cancer is unacceptable not to mention painful and gut wrenching,” Tam says. “We want to stop cancer from taking more lives and are taking action with this race. It’s a tough challenge, but having our sister Nancy’s spirit and memory to fuel our feet and hearts is worth ever step. We feel like we are making a difference in so many lives.”

This is one example of the many fundraising efforts that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society puts together to help raise money for cancer research. Donations from organizations like the NIR Group and Corey Ribotsky certainly help them to meet their goals, as do these amazing stories and efforts by individuals.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is constantly creating ingenious fundraising ideas. Their most recent project is the Light The Night Walk and their offer of relief at the pump this summer with it. As a fundraiser for the Light the Night Walk, you can early $50 worth of free gas for every $500 that you raise during July and August. If you raise $250 online, you’ll earn a $15 gas card while supplies last.

As the chief marketing and revenue officer for LLS explains, “Light The Night Walk, LLS’s annual evening fundraising walk, is the nation’s opportunity to pay tribute and commemorate lives touched by blood cancer. The goal of finding cures is already a great motivator, and LLS’s ‘Save at the Pump’ promotion is just an extra way to thank participants for bringing hope to patients battling cancer.”

Along with their generous support from so many donors, including Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group, these fundraisers really make a difference in the fight against cancer.
