Today’s Financial Forecast

Businessweek.com has an interesting piece today by Michael J. Moore entitled, “The Financial Sector Keeps Shrinking.”  Certainly, this type of article is important for those in the financial sector, like Corey Ribotsky.

The article states that, “In an effort to boost revenue, banks are shifting their focus back to bread-and-butter businesses, such as retail banking, brokerage services, and asset management. They are dusting off a once-favored strategy, cross-selling—persuading existing customers to buy additional products. Morgan Stanley has hired more than 170 private bankers to make loans and offer deposit products to its retail brokerage clients. Bank of America is looking to win banking business from the two-thirds of its Merrill Lynch customers who have bank accounts with other lenders. Wells Fargo is building its retail brokerage so that it can capture business from 5.2 million clients who hold $1.7 trillion in investment assets at other firms.”

Light the Night Walk and Retail Partners

As part of the Light The Night Walk campaign put on around the country by LLS every year, they offer retail organizations the chance to partner with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Retailers across North America are invited to has customers purchase a paper balloon for the cost of a $1 donation to LLS.  Retail partners then display the balloons in their shops, encouraging more people to donate and raising awareness about blood cancers and about the work that LLS does.

In 2010, for instance, the Burlington Coat Factory became the first Light The Night Walk National Paper Balloon Partner.  They raised more than $2.5 million just in that one year for the Light The Night Walk.  Since they joined the Light the Night Walk in 2003, they have raised a total of $9.4 million for LLS!

This is one example of how organizations and individuals like Corey Ribotsky can help to raise funds for LLS and to encourage others to learn more about the important work done by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Heather on Earth Foundation’s Beginnings

So many children have benefited from the amazing work of the Heather on Earth Music Foundation.  Supporters like Corey Ribotsky allow the Foundation to continue to do its incredible work.  While looking to support a location such as this, it’s important to know its origins and the people behind the dream.

After Geri Fessle lost her daughter, Heather Samone Fessler, in September of 1985, she searched for a way to memorialize her daughter.  In 1992, she joined the Children’s Medical Fund of New York, where Corey Ribotsky is the President, hoping to make a difference in the lives of children. She led her own community for six years and became President of the Women’s Division on Long Island for over three years.

Starting her own nonprofit to bring the power of music to children, Geri has received numerous awards for her work.  She has worked closely with other organizations, including the Board of Ascent, Pal-o Mine, the Songs of Love Foundation and others.
