Corey Ribotsky and Sunrise Day Camp

The NIR Group, where Corey Ribotsky is the Managing Partner, takes an active leadership role in several charitable foundations. One of these is Sunrise Day Camp, the only camp in the country which is solely dedicated to bringing the joyous day camp experience to children with cancer.

Sunrise Day Camp is housed on the 300 acres of the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, a beautiful, wooded location perfect for children to enjoy themselves while undergoing the challenges associated with dealing with cancer. Sunrise is free for children ages 3-16 who suffer from cancer or any of its related illnesses, with no regard to religious affiliation or denomination.

Corey Ribotsky , Business and Education

SUNY-RibotskyCorey Ribotsky – currently a Managing Partner at the NIR Group (an investment company that seeks to provide alternative strategies in all different market environments) – has a very impressive educational background, that probably steered him in the right direction for his current business position. He earned his BA at New York’s SUNY Stony Brook and an MBA from the Leonard N. Stern Graduate School of Business.

Ribotsky and SUNY Stony Brook

Being accepted as a student at SUNY Stony Brook is an impressive feat in and of itself.  But what such a college education can potentially lead to afterwards is even more exciting for its students, including graduate Corey Ribotsky.  Indeed, the educational institution was classified in the top one percent of all universities around the world by the London Times Higher Education-QS World University Ranking.  Another plus for the college is that it is relatively inexpensive (especially compared to other highly reputable universities) and it offers over 150 undergraduate programs.  As well, SUNY Stony Brook hosts many researchers and is the only teaching hospital in a university in the Long Island area.  This university is a wonderfully helpful environment for those wanting to continue on to graduate programs as well.  Perhaps that is why Corey Ribotsky began his educational career there.

Corey Ribotsky Ignites Spark of PIPE Trade Group

This year, 2009 marks the 10th anniversary since the launching of the first direct investment fund at the NIR Group, based in Roslyn, New York. With the perspective of ten years behind him, Corey Ribotsky discussed today’s unsure market and his strategies as Managing Member and Head Portfolio Manager to cope with the special stresses of investing now.
One of the main focuses of the NIR Group in the past has been PIPE investing. According to Ribotsky today’s environment for PIPEs has been “the best I’ve seen in 15 years of investing in this space.”

Believing that it will be beneficial to create a trade group for the PIPE investment space, the NIR Group has been active in beginning such an organization.  “It is something that we have talked about quite a bit over the years with other players in this strategy but it never really transpired,” explained Ribotsky.

The goal is to create a group soon which will be made up of a membership of investors involved in the PIPE space, as well as service providers such as lawyers and accountants and others who also play an important role in this investment strategy. Although the NIR Group itself is really only involved in the micro and small cap market, the group will most probably include those in the mid to larger cap markets. This would tend to include placement agents, broker dealers, investment banks and others.
